Dedicated or Bare metal servers
A dedicated server is a type of physical server dedicated for the use of a single customer. Also known as dedicated hosting, the dedicated server is used exclusively by it's customer and not shared with any other parties or applications.
A dedicated server is the functional unit of all web services and hosting.
Dedicated server benefits
Control
A dedicated server allows a customer to control all possible aspects: the hardware architecture, the software configurations, hardware or software upgrades, maintenance scheduling, etc.
Performance
With a dedicated server, you have both the guarantee that all sever resources are allocated for you, and the possibility of optimising each parameter to better suit your specific needs.
Security
Dedicated servers offer the highest level of security. As the harware is not used by anyone elese, a dedicated server provides a physical layer of separation, offering the utmost security.
Flexibility
Non-standard or application specific needs? What are your short and long term goals? Would you lease? Or would you prefer to own the actual hardware? A dedicated server will offer the flexibility of choosing each possible parameter.
Dedicated server use cases
The use cases for dedicated servers are almost limitless. Some of the most common uses are:
- Web hosting environment for large corporate websites and/or online stores
- Storage servers
- Streaming servers
- Cluster nodes for private or public cloud
- Nodes for VPS servers
VPS servers
VPS (Virtual Private Servers) is a type of server powerded by virtualization technology.
A VPS server is similar in function to a Dedicated server, as it functions indepedently and has it's own operating system, however instead of residing directly in a physical server and directly interacting with the physical hardware, it resids inside a virtual partition and interacts with emultated (or virtual) hardware.
VPS servers can be located inside a single dedicated server, on inside a public or private cluster of multiple dedicated servers (also known as a Cloud).
VPS servers on public Cloud infrastructures are the most popular starting points for small projects.
VPS server benefits
Cost effectiveness
Offering many of the benefits of Dedicated Server, VPS servers are often the most efficient option for small and medium projects, as they benefit both from allowing to only allocate the required resources and from the economics of scale of larger enterprises.
Instant deployment
VPS servers can, in many cases, be deployed instantly. For standard VPS configurations situated in public clouds the VPS server can be provisioned instantly and automatically, without the time and effort needed for manual server deployment.
Scalability
As the hardware used by VPS servers is emulated by virtualization technologies, scaling to superior performance (more CPU cores, more RAM memory, more disk space, etc) can be done in an instant, without the need of any interventions on the pysical hardware.
Flexibility
New projects? Short term projects? Forcasting growing needs? VPS servers allow the flexibility of scalability combined with the possibility of short term commitments and small initial investments.
Cloud solutions
From the point of view of the solutions it provides, cloud computing is a computing and/or hosting solution provided on demand, over the internet.
From an IT infrastructure perspective, the cloud is one more groups of dedicated servers, pooling resources for the use of Cloud computing services and/or hosting.
Public and private cloud
In a public cloud, the pool of resources is available to and used by multiple different customers.
Private cloud is an excusive and custom made solution for exclusively catering the needs of a single private customer. The resoursces are not shared or pooled with any other customer.
High Bandwidth
For any of our hosting solutions we can provide unlimited, unmetered, unshared and unfiltered high bandwidth ports with excellent conectivity within the EU and beyond!
What is bandwidth?
Bandwidth is the total capacity of data that can move through a network or through a network port at the same time, at a certain moment.
Through our strategic parnerships we are able to offer anywhere from 1G to 100G and over 100G at the most competitive prices on the market.
Shared vs unshared bandwidth
Shared bandwidth is the theoretical maximum bandwidth that a customer could use if other customers are not also using concurrently (which is rarely the case).
Unshared bandwidth is dedicated exclusively to a customer, and it is both the theoretical and practical bandwidth available to the customer.
